HIST8 - February 5, 2019

  • HW: Watch the State of the Union Address and complete the SOTU Study Guide
  • CONTINUING HW: Read and take notes on 5:4. You will likely have a quiz when Ippolito returns.
  • ESSENTIAL QUESTION: What makes for an effective State of the Union Address?
  1. Welcome and attendance
  2. Assessing the State of the Union - HANDOUT HERE
  3. As a class, read together: http://mentalfloss.com/article/29811/brief-history-state-union
  4. Then, as a class, watch the two videos below on the State of the Union. After reading the above article together, and watching the videos, scan through some of the articles below to help you answer Question #1 on the handout IN CLASS. Discuss these responses as a class.
  5. Once you've done what you can with the State of the Union, set that aside and turn your attention to the War of 1812. As a class, you'll watch the Crash Course U.S. History video on the War of 1812. While you watch, fill in the answers on your handout as best you can. Once the video is over, take a few minutes to go over it with an elbow partner. Finally, go over it as a class.
  6. With any time you may have remaining in the period, I strongly urge you to prepare yourself for a challenging 5:4 Quiz in our next class. Have a great day!
