      China and the Mongols Movie Poster - 11/28/2017

      ESSENTIAL QUESTION(S)/BIG IDEAS: What are the main ideas of the three belief systems of China?

      HW: Read 10:3 and 11:1. Prepare for an open-note quiz tomorrow.

      PLEASE FOLLOW ALONG WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS ON MRIPPOLITO.COM WHILE YOU WATCH THE INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO.



      AGENDA:
      1. China and the Mongols Movie Poster
        1. Scan 10:3 and 11:1 FIRST. Get an idea of what the subject matter of your movie (and therefore your movie poster) might be.
        2. You will create a movie poster that demonstrates your knowledge of ONE or more of the key terms or people from 10:3 or 11:1 in your movie title (land tenure, literacy, money economy, porcelain, Chinese ships, ascendancy, steppe, khan, Genghis Khan, catapult, Kublai Khan, or Marco Polo)
        3. Create your poster using Google Drawings. Most movie posters online today are formatted to 8.5 x 11 inches, but you can choose whichever formatting works best for you.
        4. Find a picture online to use as your background OR draw your own to include in your poster. NOTE: the image you choose should NOT be from a movie already made about China or the Mongols
        5. Place the movie title big and bold on your poster. Use the WordArt and drop shadow techniques you have already learned in my class
        6. Include a single line or catch phrase that shows an understanding of specifically what you have learned from 10:3 or 11:1
        7. Include 2-3 other text elements seen in a traditional movie poster (stars of the movie, credit block, when the movie opens, movie rating, etc) to creatively demonstrate your learning about the history of China and the Mongols in either 10:3/11:1.
        8. When finished, export your poster as a PNG file and email to our classroom blog at rippolito.history@blogger.com. In the subject line of that email, remember to include your name(s) and your class period. Use both first and last name (spelled correctly) to make sure you get credit for your work.
        9. Your movie poster will be due TOMORROW, Wednesday 11/29.
        10. Here are several examples of movie posters from a film class at DePaul University; you could also do a Google Image search for "movie poster" for more inspiration and examples

          Daoism - 11/13/2017

          ESSENTIAL QUESTION(S)/BIG IDEAS: What are the main ideas of the three belief systems of China?

          2. The Great Thanksgiving Listen
            1. Select 10-15 interview questions to ask your interviewee. More great questions are HERE
            2. Make sure there is enough storage space on your recording device. The easiest way to record is with the voice recorder app on your phone, iPod Touch, or iPad
            3. Arrange for a quiet place and time to interview an older member of your family (preferably a grandparent or someone born before 1967)
            4. Once the interview is complete, take a photo of you and your interviewee
            5. Upload your photo and the audio of your interview to Google Drive.
            6. Name your audio file like this: Interview with My Grandmother Dolores Huerta - Nov2017
            7. Share this audio recording file with at least three other family members. The goal with this upload is to put this file in a place that will be both safe AND a place where you and your family can find the file in years to come.
            8. Check in with me on the Monday right after Thanksgiving. There will be a brief form to fill out and you will be asked to prove that you conducted your interview. Once that is complete, you get the FINAL EXAM BONUS!

          HW: Sundiata: What Comes Next? - See the description in the graphic above. Your grade will be based on critical thinking, use of vocabulary, and visual appeal. For this assignment, you will need to:
          • Use and highlight FIVE challenging academic vocabulary words from the Sundiata text
          • Demonstrate that you understand the MEANING of each of the five words you use
          • Demonstrate that you know how to use Word Art
          • Demonstrate that you know how to create a drop shadow
          • Download your work as a PNG file, then upload it as an attachment and email it to rippolito.history@blogger.com; in the subject line, include your first and last name(s) and your class period (the same way you submitted your Word Cloud)
