Rise of the Patriots - 9/30/2015

Mr. Ippolito was absent today. Students watched "The American Revolution: Rise of the Patriots" and reflected on how both Loyalists and Patriots felt during the events leading up to the American War for Independence. If you missed it, you can check out the video HERE.

            JOURNAL PROMPT:What would be GREAT about declaring your independence from your family? What could you do on your own that you currently do not have the freedom to do? What would be the first thing you would do to celebrate your independence?
            What would be difficult about having your independence? Could you make it on your own? If you couldn't make it now, at what stage in your life do you think you will be ready to live independently from your family?

            After you finish responding to the journal prompt, list three reasons why the American colonies broke away from Great Britain (if you can remember them from fifth grade).

            Constitution Day! - 9/17/2015

            HOMEWORK: Prepare for Friday's exam. Here's what you should know:
            • The current 2016 Presidential candidates
              • Be able to identify them by sight, know their names, their political party, and whether they are currently an active candidate for the 2016 Presidential election
              • Need a little help remembering them all. Here's that NEW YORK TIMES GUIDE I gave you at the beginning of our Presidential unit
            • In general, where Republicans and Democrats stand on the issues
              • For example, Republicans general favor gun rights, while Democrats want more gun control; most Republican candidates believe marriage should be between a man and a woman while Democrats support same-sex marriage rights; and so forth
            • Also know who is NOT currently in the 2016 race. Who hasn't declared yet? Who has recently dropped out of the race?
            • Please note that the exam will no longer cover the 13 Colonies Map
